A warning to the people The good and the evil This is war To the soldier, the civilian The martyr, the victim This is war It's the moment of truth, and the moment to lie The moment to live and the moment to die The moment to fight, the moment to fight To fight, to fight, to fight To the right, to the left We will fight to the death To the edge of the earth It's a brave new world From the last to the first To the right, to the left We will fight to the death To the edge of the earth It's a brave new world It's a brave new world! -- This Is War, Thirty Seconds to Mars There are two great villains in the genres I follow who only got better the more your knew about them and the more one delved into their background.  The first is Magneto, villain of the X-Men. When he first appeared in the 60s, he was literally just ANOTHER evil megalomaniacal villain who wanted to rule the world because he had power, and everyone under him was a lesser being. Then, as other writers got aho...

Soundwave Contact Build (Transformers Essence20 rpg)

Image
In this article, we focus on what could potentially be most Transformers fans' favorite character...or at least their favorite Decepticon: Soundwave ! Why is he the favorite? Is it because he comes with more tiny robots inside him? Maybe. Is it because he becomes a walkman? Potentially.  Personally though, I think it's because of his voice. Soundwave had that wicked cool synthesizer voice that really set him apart from all the other characters. And really... he just LOOKS cool! Although listed as the Decepticon's  "Communications Officer," Soundwave is actually in charge of their Intelligence Division. And all his little Recodicon Mini-bots are his spies and agents. Buzzsaw is his spy. Frenzy and Rumble are his enforcers. Laserbeak is his interrogator. Ravage is his saboteur. And this does not even touch on MANY of the other Recordicons that show up later down the line... Beastbox is an interrogator, Flipsides is a double agent hidden in the Autobot ranks, Garboil...

Thundercracker Contact Build (Transformers Essence20 rpg)

Image
We round off the original wave of Seekers with the Contact build of Thundercracker ! Thundercracker was one of the original three Decepticon jets released with the original wave of Transformers in 1984. Being the blue jet who made sonic booms (something they could ALL do, given the speeds they are capable of flying), he was not particularly impressive. He always seemed to be the third guy in the team, to Starscream's leadership and Skywarp's unique teleporting power. Despite his presentation in cartoon and comics, Thundercracker was chosen as one of Starscream's elite for a reason. And frankly, it's because he really competent at his job! Thundercracker is a stout warrior and enjoys battle. He's got a lot of weapons to draw on and his sonic booms are good to inspire fear in his enemy. All-in-all, he's a great combatant. His drawback is the fact that he wants to engage in honorable combat with warriors and such. As the Decepticons gain power, and start committing...

Starscream Contact Build (Transformers Essence20 rpg)

Image
Today's article features a Decepticon who is perhaps even more infamous that Megatron himself. Here we discuss the Decepticon Air Commander Starscream ! Starscream functions as Megatron's executive officer; second-in-command to the Decepticon army solely because of his vaunted position as the leader of the Seekers, who form the backbone of the Con Military. Previous to his joining the Decepticon army, Starscream was a less-than-noteworthy scientist who worked alongside Jetfire. Both were persuaded by the anti-Functionist speeches of Megatron during his gladiatorial days, and eagerly joined the Cons as a means to improve their lives.  Ever the ambitious one, Starscream became envious of Jetfire's position as leader of Megatron's Seekers and constantly sought means to replace his companion. When Jetfire became disillusioned with the atrocities committed by the Cons and joined the Autobots, Starscream immediately placed himself in the position as leader of the Seekers. He ...
