Dungeon23, January Day 24

Area 24

The aloud the following text:

The stone door to this crypt is covered in a fresco carved in the likeness of an elven woman with short, braided hair and a lean build. She wears the holy symbol to the God of Tyranny.

The name carved upon the door frame of the crypt entry states the name of the hero interred within as Erwil Gadilinion. Her body is no longer found inside, having been claimed by the evil cult years ago. The original wards to the crypt are also gone. They have since been replaced by an arcane lock created the evil cult.

The door is blocked with a heavy bar and locked with a padlock (DC 20 Thieves' Tools check to open ([DC 30, thanks to the arcane lock]; one of the bandits in area 23 has the key). Saying a prayer to the Lord of the Nine Hells will open the arcane lock, as its password.

Inside the chamber, it appears as through the crypt has been left undisturbed. Thanks to the spells that permeate the mausoleum, the crypt chamber appears as clean as any of the halls. The sarcophagus of the elven hero stands affixed to the floor at the center of the chamber. Lifting the sarcophagus lid requires a DC 11 Strength (Athletics) check.

The sarcophagus is warded with magic (a successful DC 13 Intelligence [Arcana] or DC 18 Intelligence [Investigation] check will notice the magical wards). If the sarcophagus lid is opened without deactivating or dispelling the magical wards, it will summon 8 giant poisonous snakes to attack the the intruders.

In the sarcophagus are two lock boxes stolen from the procession. Both of the locks have been broken open. Inside one lock box are bags of coins divided into rolls of 100 coins each. There are 14 rolls of copper pennies, 10 rolls of silver shillings, and 7 rolls of gold pieces. The other lock box contains 6 trade games, worth 50 gp each, and a rope of climbing.
