Area 4
Flanking the statue of the Goddess of Death and standing in front of the main mausoleum are a pair of 5-foot wide and 15-foot tall black-stone obelisks sitting on an 8-foot-wide platform. These stones are carved with the holy scriptures of the Book of the Dead, to help the fallen transition to their respective places in the afterlife. The stones show some signs of weathering, but thanks to the magical enchantment placed upon them during their construction, the carved inscriptions are still fully legible. The script from the Book of the Dead begins on obelisk 4a and continues to finishing on 4b.
The two obelisks serve a secondary function to expand the blindsense of the animated statue of the Goddess of Death (see area 3). The animated statue can perceive the area via blindsense up to 60 feet from both of the obelisks. This allows the animated statue to operate up to 120 feet from the obelisks, as long as the radius of its own blindsense overlaps with those of the obelisks'.
It is possible to damage or even destroy the stone obelisks. Each has AC 17 and 50 hit points. If an obelisk is destroyed, it can no longer function to expand the blindsense of the animated statue of the Death Goddess.
Any creature that participates in the destruction of one or both of the obelisks must make a DC 24 Wisdom saving throw or be cursed; suffering disadvantage on all ability checks, saving throws, and attack rolls. The effect lasts until an atonement, remove curse, or similar magic is used to cast off the curse. However, anyone that is a cleric, paladin, or other servant of the Goddess of Death will recognize the curse and will generally refuse to aid the afflicted creature due to their transgressions, unless proper reparations are made to restore the destroyed obelisk(s).
