Sludge Contact (Transformers Essence20 RPG)

This Dinobot Contact is Sludge... perhaps not the smartest of the Dinobots. But certainly a good ally to have in one's pocket if one needs something smashed down.

This is unofficial, fan-made content using the Transformers Essence20 rpg by Renegade Games Studios.

Sludge

Stomp your enemy, crush him under your feet.”

"Sludge dumb" is how Grimlock, the Dinobot commander himself, describes the plodding Autobot. The Dinobots have a perhaps undeserved reputation for being dimwitted, but Sludge is the genuine article. He makes the other four look like scholars in comparison.

As Sludge can't make much of an impression in the mental department, he likes to make his presence known physically. He'll stomp his hefty hide around just so you know he's there. None of the Dinobots really like Optimus Prime, but he and Slag share an especially intense dislike for him. Sludge believes that the strongest should lead, and in his mind, Grimlock is the strongest Autobot. But Sludge genuinely believes in the Autobot cause, so he tolerates Prime. Beyond that, Sludge is actually what you might call nice... Maybe not to Swoop's level, but nicer than the other guys.

Influences

Experiment, Lackey: Sludge knows he is not one to lead or make decisions. He is more than happy to allow others to make the hard choices.

Origin

Monstrosity: Sludge assumes the form of an Apatosaurus

Role and Focus

Warrior (Pugilist): Sludge’s tactics usually involve charging straight at their chosen enemy and smashing them with their tail or fists.

Essence Scores and Skills

Strength 9: Brawn +d8, Intimidation +d4, Might +d6

Speed 2: Initiative +d2, Targeting +d2

Smarts 3: Alertness +d2, Survival +d4

Social 5: Animal Handling +d6, Streetwise +d4

Gaining name As A Contact

The Strong Will Lead: Sludge believes the strongest should lead, and there is no one stronger than Grimlock. If the PC spend their downtime competing with Sludge – or other Dinobots, where Sludge can see – and best their opponent in two out of three opposed Athletics or Brawn Skill Tests, the PC gains Sludge as a permanent Contact.

Allegiance Points: 3

Contact Perks

All-Terrain Warrior (2 Allegiance Points): Sludge is adept at fighting in water, swamp, and jungle terrains. While in any of these terrains, the PCs are not hindered by rough terrain for the rest of the scene.

Footstop (3 Allegiance Points): Sludge’s footstop has enough impact to shatter a bridge. A PC can select a 30-foot radius area. All buildings, structures, and Threats in this area take 1 Blunt Damage. The area is considered to be rough terrain for the rest of the scene.

Sludge Strong! (1 Allegiance Point): Sludge smacks his enemies with his massive, long tail. A PC critically succeeds on their next Strength-Based Skill Test.

Contact Hang-Up

Follows the Strongest: Sludge is easily manipulated in obeying the orders of others – including attacking his own allies – if directed to by someone strong and powerful. If Sludge is successfully Intimidated by a Threat whose Strength Essence is equal to or greater than his own, he deals 1 Blunt Damage to a random ally then leaves the scene.
