Slug Contact (Transformers Essence20 rpg)

We continue with our Contact builds with the Dinobot Slug.

Formerly known as "Slag" this character underwent a name change due to the slur that his name meant in most other countries where Transformers were popular.

Slug was MY first Dinobot toy, as a child, as I was always a fan of the Triceratops. My parents were well aware of this. So a Triceratops Transformer? This was just the BEST!

This article is unofficial, fan-made material using the Transformers Essence20 rpg by Renegade Games Studios.

Slug

I have no need for friends, even less for enemies.”

Slug is the Dinobot most likely to live up to the team's bad reputation. Slug is surly, mean-spirited, nasty, and disturbingly violent, to the point where it really is a wonder he's not a Decepticon. Slug will fight anyone, over anything, at the drop of a microchip, and fight dirty. Slug enjoys nothing more than reducing his enemies to pools of molten metal with his fire-breath (and he's more than willing to include annoying Autobots on that list). He'd swim in the pools to celebrate if he could.

None of the Dinobots really like Optimus Prime, but he and Sludge share an especially intense dislike of him. But it's not just Prime's orders he questions. He'll even mouth off at Grimlock every now and then, but somehow does not end up as scrap or lunch. Slug's bad attitude means the rest of the Autobot forces are unlikely to come to his aid when he bites off more than he can chew.

Influences

Experiment, Gladiator, Violent: Slug has been fighting for a long, long time. He learned his earliest values and what the world was like in the gladiator pits: it was him against the world and the world had to die so he wouldn't. The brutalization took a deep toll on his psyche.

The Violent Influence comes from the Cobra Codex.

Origin

Monstrosity: At a time of the Exodus, when their group was the Lightning Strike Coalition, Slug and Snarl were on a mission to find their leader Grimlock, who had disappeared. While searching the Sea of Rust, they were ambushed by Hardshell and the Insecticons. Slug and Snarl were overwhelmed and taken prisoners to Shockwave's lab, where they are reunited with the rest of their squadron. Shockwave experimented on the Lightning Strike Coalition, transforming them into the monstrous Dinobots. This backfired on the Decepticon scientist, however, when the Dinobots used their newfound power to rise up against Shockwave and thrash his lab.

Role and Focus

Ranger (Firestarter): The process it takes to build up a fiery (3,000 degrees centigrade plus) blast and reduce an enemy to molten slag is hardly energy-efficient, but he doesn't care. It's firepower well spent in his book.

Ranger is a Role from the GIJoe RPG. Firestarter is a Role Focus from the Cobra Codex.

Burn It Down: Slug isn’t interested in making new friends, but he does love to talk about destruction… especially if said destruction involves fire! If the PCs spend a scene during their downtime sharing their passion for fire with Slug and succeed at a DIF 14 Culture, Deception, Science, or Survival Skill Test, they gain Slug as a permanent Contact.

Allegiance Points: 3

Contact Perks

Excuse Me! (1 Allegiance Point): Anything Slug doesn’t burn down just gets trampled. One Threat takes 1 Stun and falls Prone.

Fire Resistant (2 Allegiance Points): Slug can take the heat when others are running out of the fire. The PCs are Resistant to Fire Damage until the end of the next round.

Flamethrower (3 Allegiance Points): Slug burns down everything in his path. All Threats in a combat suffer 2 Fire Damage.

Contact Hang-Up

Friendly Fire: Sometimes it’s Slug’s allies who get burned. When Slug uses a Contact Perk, roll 1d10. On a 1 a random PC suffers 1 Fire Damage.
