GRAPPLE

Beauty is in everything except war.”

Grapple is technically an architect, but in his spark he is an artist. On Cybertron, before the war, his buildings were considered great works of art, but now his constructions are limited by the realities and needs of the war effort. It is a situation he often finds stifling. Grapple takes great pride in any work he constructs, and is prone to severe bouts of depression should his "masterworks" be destroyed in the course of combat. Grapple can usually be found hanging out with his close friend Hoist who does his best to cheer Grapple up when his artistic temperament has him down.

Influences

Artisan, Machinist: Grapple is an architect who looks at his buildings like works of art.

Origin

Support: Grapple assumes the alt-mode of a Mitsubishi Fuso Fire Truck, modified to serve as a construction vehicle.

Role and Focus

Technician (Expert): This Role and Focus from the GIJoe core rulebook seems to best fit Grapple and his expertise as an architect.

Essence Scores and Skills

Strength 8: Athletics +d6, Brawn +d6, Might +d4

Speed 3: Driving +d4, Targeting +d2

Smarts 8: Culture +d6, Technology (Engineering) +d8

Gaining Grapple As A Contact

Fellow Autobot: If this Contact is on scene, the PCs can summon them for 1 round.

Any Friend of Hoist: Grapple’s best friend is the Autobot Hoist. If a PC has Hoist as a Contact, they gain Grapple as a temporary Contact whom they can call on once.

We Can Build It: Grapple loves to build beautiful, impressive structures. He enjoys collaborating with others and sharing ideas as to how they can be improved. If the PCs spend their downtime helping Grapple with a new construction project, succeeding on three DIF 16 Brawn, Culture, Performance, Science, or Technology Skill Tests, they gain Grapple as permanent Contact.

Allegiance Points: 3

Contact Perks

Arc-Welder (3 Allegiance Points): Grapple puts his engineering skills to use to help the PCs finish their mission. All PCs recover 1 Health. In addition, if any of their weapons or equipment is damaged, it is also repaired for the same amount.

It’s In the Name (1 Allegiance Point): Grapple comes in and uses his big crane arm to make short work of the heavy lifting. A PC automatically succeeds on their next Brawn Skill Test.

Wrist Rockets (1 Allegiance Point): Grapple launches rockets from his wrist mounting. While he’s not a great shot, he makes excellent use of them as a distraction. One Threat suffers a Snag on their next Skill Test.
